3rd Rallye Burnie , 2006 WHAT IS RALLYE BURNIE?
Rallye Burnie differs from Rally Tasmania by using one common section of road on each day of the competition. This road is split into numerous special stages which competitors compete over in both directions at 1 minute intervals. Therefore, Rallye Burnie has approximately 11 Special Stages, and is conducted on public A, B and C class tarmac roads ranging from 4km to 13km in length. The total distance is approximately 400km, of which approximately 130km are Special Stages. WHERE IS IT CONDUCTED? Rallye Burnie is based in the City of Burnie on the North West Coast of Tasmania. The competition covers spectacular mountain and valley areas south of the City, and returns to Burnie at the end of each day.
WHAT ARE SPECIAL STAGES & ROAD SECTIONS? Special Stages are conducted on roads closed to all traffic other than competition vehicles. All Special Stages are timed to the second and the time taken is expressed in minutes and seconds. Road Sections are those sections of the route located between successive time controls. They may or may not include Special Stages, and are used to move the field through areas that are unsuitable for competition. A target time is set for each Road Section. Early or late arrival at the time control at the end of a Road Section involves a road penalty, however late time (extra time) is also accrued at the rate of 1 minute per minute or part thereof for the time taken in excess of the time allowed for the Road Section.
