Aussie Racing Cars, Australian GP, Albert Park, 2008
[All timing by Natsoft]
Gary was driving the second SuperCheap Auto Racing Commodore partnering James Small for the first time in front of his hometown crowd. Four races were scheduled over the weekend. There were 39 cars entered for the first session of practice on Thursday.
Gary improved on his first session lap time by three seconds, and this was enough to grab another couple of places up the grid. Obviously, he was slowly coming to grips with the new car and its handling characteristics.
Race 1 was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 17:30. With the sun gone, lap times were significantly slower but Gary still managed a 26th place finish in a very competitive field, which was dominated by seasoned drivers and teams.
Race 2 was held Friday, March 14th again late in the afternoon. Thirty cars finished, with another eight cars DNF.
Race 3, Saturday March 15th was scheduled for 16:15 but got away 15 minutes late. Lap times improved significantly over Race 2 with the lap record being broken by the first five cars home. Gary's teammate, James Small, set a new lap record of 2:16.0196!
Race 4, Sunday March 16th
Next round: V8 Supercars, Eastern Creek, NSW, March 7th - 9th
